Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is a division of the Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. As part of the nation's first research university, AAP offers high-quality master's degrees and certificate programs at its Washington, D.C., Center, at JHU's Homewood Campus in Baltimore, Maryland, and online. Position description
We are seeking an adjunct faculty member to develop and teach a course in Historic Preservation. The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the position. Initially, the candidate will co-teach an existing course alongside a program faculty mentor to gain familiarity with the program structure, course objectives, and teaching style. Following this collaboration, the candidate will be responsible for independently developing and delivering an introductory graduate Historic Preservation course, incorporating both academic theory and real-world applications of preservation practices.

The ideal candidate will have professional experience in historic preservation, including work with architectural conservation, heritage management, or preservation planning, alongside a solid understanding of preservation theory. They should demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to engage students with both historical context and hands-on preservation techniques, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment.

This position offers the opportunity to shape the curriculum and contribute to the ongoing development of the cultural heritage management program.

Salary

The expected salary range for this position is: $7,210.

The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate - e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors; geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in Historic Preservation or a relevant field, with a master's degree at minimum.
  • At least three years of professional work experience within the preservation field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in Historic Preservation or in a relevant field
  • 1-3 years of graduate level experience teaching experience
  • Five years of professional work experience within the preservation field.
  • Strong interest in advising graduate students interested in a career in the heritage sector.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
