Job Description

Syntiro, a mission-driven nonprofit organization headquartered in Augusta, Maine, seeks a Data and Evaluation Specialist .

Syntiro works for equity in partnership with educators, state agencies, and community organizations seeking to acquire knowledge, embrace change, and increase effectiveness in education and employment. For almost 40 years, our Maine-based nonprofit has been respected for its commitment to providing creative and innovative professional development and results-based services addressing critical issues facing Maine and the nation.

Syntiro is currently administering Maine’s State GEAR UP program (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) in collaboration with the University of Maine at Farmington, which received funding from the U.S. Department of Education (2023-2030). GU-ME RISE is designed to enhance and improve the rate at which students graduate high school and enroll in and complete postsecondary education. GU-ME RISE is framed upon four attributes ( R elevance, I nquiry, S upports and Equity for All, and E xpectations and Aspirations for Postsecondary Education) that have critical importance to addressing the needs of economically-disadvantaged, rural Maine communities.

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Evaluation
    • Collaborate with Program Evaluator(s), Participatory Evaluation Team, and GEAR UP Director to develop and implement evaluation methodology related to program needs (eg. GEAR UP Pilot Studies, focus groups, surveys).
    • Communicate/Share data with appropriate stakeholders at meetings and conferences
    • Prepare and share data with State and Federal agencies as required

  • Data
    • Work collaboratively within the team to ensure appropriate data entry and validation
    • Support data sharing with partner schools
    • Assist GEAR UP staff and schools with data collection requirements and questions
    • Review school reported data for conformity to our data standards and accuracy
    • Assist external evaluators with reports and data extraction

General
  • Contribute to and honor the office’s best working conditions
  • Contribute to a culture of inquiry using data to reflect, share and respond


Knowledge/Skill Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and must possess the ability to work concurrently and collaboratively with several individuals on an array of projects.
  • Outstanding skills in Excel, google drive, and relevant software
  • Proficient in the use of technology to support organizational projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.


The Data and Evaluation Specialist is a full time, fiscal year position dependent upon external, federal funding. Statewide travel and a criminal background check are required. The Data and Evaluation Specialist is typically remote. Occasional travel across the state may be necessary, requiring a driver’s license and reliable transportation. Occasional out of state travel is also required. The position has a high degree of variability, even on a daily basis. The environment can be stressful when tight time frames exist and evening and/or weekend work may be required when events are scheduled, deadlines are imminent, or responsibilities overlap.

Work Year: July 1 - June 30

A background check is required prior to hire. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Compensation

Competitive salary and benefits for the most qualified candidate.

Hiring Range: 55,000 - 60,000
