Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Facility Planner – Advanced Planning supports the operation of the Planning and Space Management team by primarily focusing on the preliminary planning and programming phases of multiple capital projects. The incumbent will have extensive project management and planning experience, organizational skills, and an ability to manage significant institutional resources. The incumbent is expected to have knowledge of both state and university construction guidelines and processes and serve as a resource to the campus community for capital project planning. In addition, the incumbent will have a strong emphasis on communication skills to work collaboratively with staff in the Planning and Space Management department and the Project Management department, along with other university and external stakeholders.

  • This position will primarily focus on the preliminary planning and programming phases of multiple capital projects.
  • Possess and displays technical skills and knowledge in the areas of Construction, Engineering, Architectural Design, or Project Management as required by the position of Facility Planner-Advanced.
  • Display ability to manage multiple complex capital projects simultaneously.
  • Display and apply thoroughly developed knowledge of project management principles involved in strategic planning, problem solving, budget analysis, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Demonstrate ability to be proactive and work independently with limited direction.
  • Provide project updates and prepare reports and budget for both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage and program major campus capital projects in alignment with the strategic plan and campus master plan.
  • Applies appropriate expertise as required for consultation, investigation, evaluation and planning of design projects and resources.
  • Analyzes architectural drawings to support site planning feasibility and schematic studies for capital projects.
  • Review and analyze design documents to ensure University standards and guidelines are incorporated.
  • Comprehends and understands complex capital projects and communicates analysis and understanding via written, verbal, and graphic representations to customers, user groups, contractors, administrators, consultants, architects, engineers, and a variety of campus stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all PDC operations.

Minimum Experience / Education:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in the area of assignment and at least eight years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of industry standards and design principles for building construction and interior renovations is preferred.
  • Master's degree in Architecture or related degree in the area of assignment.
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and an ability to effectively anticipate and respond to requests for information and assistance.
  • Flexible and innovative with an ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities in a time-critical environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required.
  • Exemplary skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Excel, PowerPoint, Project planning, and other related software.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Ability to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
