Job Description

Department: Precision

Location: Manhattan, New York

Compensation: $140,000 - $160,000 / year

Description

Precision Neuroscience is pioneering a brain implant, known as a brain-computer interface (BCI), to restore communication and independence for people with neurological conditions. Our cutting-edge technology is designed to empower people with paralysis to control digital devices—such as computers and smartphones—with their thoughts alone, opening new possibilities for daily life.

Precision’s multidisciplinary team brings together leading experts in diverse fields such as neurosurgery, artificial intelligence, machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, and more. We are committed to turning breakthrough scientific advancements into real-world solutions for people affected by conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke, and ALS.

As a Precision employee, you will be joining one of the fastest moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of BCI. Since our founding in 2021, Precision has secured over $155 million in funding, developed and validated our technology, and initiated human trials in collaboration with some of the nation’s top hospitals.

We are seeking a Field Clinical Specialist to help us support the use of the Layer 7 device in the context of a clinical research study. This position will travel to our clinical sites to guide intraoperative device use and clinical implementation, manage experimental paradigms and data collection, and provide technical support for software and hardware issues. This involves collaborating with healthcare professionals and clinical research staff, conducting training, and suggesting process or device improvements.

This role will require on-call rotation as you will support neurosurgical cases which may be emergent in nature. In this role you will help drive the state-of-the-art in real-time brain mapping and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), playing a critical role in advancing our understanding of neurological disorders and optimizing performance of BCI. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation in the field of neurotechnology.

This position is on-site at our Manhattan (Flatiron neighborhood) office or could be remote based on site locations, and involve up to 70% travel. To be eligible for this role you must currently be based in the United States, and have working rights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, engineers, and electrophysiologists to manage and oversee the clinical research use of the Layer 7 Device, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with study protocols.
  • Assist in the clinical experimental design, preparatory work, systematic collection, documentation, and analysis of clinical data, including patient perspectives and device performance metrics, to support research initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and training for clinical staff regarding the surgical workflow for placement, use and removal of the device.
  • Act as a point of contact for troubleshooting technical issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain signal fidelity and data collection ability.
  • Prepare and present polished results to internal and external collaborators in a timely fashion.
  • Relaying insights to the greater team for, but not limited to, system/process evolution, feature development, and study improvement.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in mechanical, electrical or biomedical engineering, neuroscience, biology or related fields. OR at least 7 years of clinical experience in neurosurgery or neurocritical care.
  • 2+ years' experience in a field support role or a similar position within a medical device company, preferably in clinical device research context.
  • Strong understanding of neuroscience and functional cortical organization, basic neurosurgery concepts, hardware, electronics and software applications.
  • Strong understanding of the scientific method and engineering first principles.
  • Experience with or an understanding of good clinical practice (GCP) and FDA guidelines.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills plus a good sense in scientific presentation, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Self starter with proven ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, work effectively on tight timelines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Preferred: strong understanding of medical devices and patient care involved in the neuromonitoring or extraoperative care setting, including monitoring systems, infusion pumps, drains and ventilators.

Diverse workforces create the best culture, company, and products. We at Precision are committed to an inclusive culture that celebrates the uniqueness and contributions of everyone.
As an equal opportunity employer, Precision does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
