DESCRIPTION

The Pharmacist Manager will provide direct supervision to pharmacists and technical support staff for the UCSD McGrath Infusion Pharmacy. This position will be the Pharmacist in Charge for the pharmacy. In addition to the leadership responsibilities below, the Pharmacy Manager will be leading the fit up / opening UCSD McGrath Infusion Pharmacy and assisting with fit-up for other services in the facility related to pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacist Manager will work closely with Infusion Pharmacy leadership across all sites at UCSD and other leaders across the organization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets.

* Manages pharmacy operations to achieve quality, service, and productivity objectives. Ensures staff adheres to internal policy and external regulations for the medication use process, including prescribing, drug preparation, storage, dispensing, administration and monitoring. Manages to achieve department objectives through defining individual goals and ensuring work meets quality, timeline, and customer service standards.

* Advises employees on handling sensitive patient situations and resolving issues. Develops, implements and monitors policies and procedures for daily operations to ensure regulatory compliance. Partners with managers across clinical and administrative disciplines to improve workflow. Implements quality and service improvement initiatives to support strategic plans.

* Provides input for short and long range pharmacy goals. Participates in developing drug use protocols and workflow systems for drug manufacturing, storing, and dispensing. Evaluates department productivity, operations and quality of care performance against standards. Recommends changes and improvements to close gaps. Participates in fiscal planning and accountable for adhering to budget.

* Assists with cost analysis and identifies ways to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Represents the department / unit on interdisciplinary committees on a range of patient care topics, such as patient satisfaction levels, workforce quality improvement initiatives, workflow efficiencies and clinical information systems.

* Serves as a member on Pharmacy related local, state, and/or national professional committees.

Recommends changes in staffing, executes recruiting and onboarding, verifying new hires meet standards. Updates job descriptions and career series to maintain accuracy. Conducts performance evaluations and defines development goals. Serves as an educational resource for pharmacy staff, promotes professional growth and advancement, encourages participation in trainings and educational programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D); or equivalent training.

  • Registered Pharmacist issued by the state of California (RPH).

  • Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience.

  • Experience and proven success in Pharmacy practice and industry best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients.

  • Stays updated on pharmacy regulations, drug products, and developments in research and design.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in oncology.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Experience with budget/financials.
  • Board Certification in Oncology and / or Board Certification in Specialty Practice.
  • Post graduate year 2 [PGY2] in area of specialty practice or equivalent experience in specialty area.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $163,800 - $331,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $78.45 - $158.62

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
