Job Description

• Teach in-person lower- and upper-level geoscience courses that would include, but are not limited to, the areas of mineralogy, igneous petrology, metamorphic petrology, structural geology, optical mineralogy and petrology, GIS, and introductory geoscience (natural disasters or other introductory geoscience courses as needed).

  • GEOS 316 Geographic Information Systems
  • GEOS 360 Structural Geology
  • GEOS 385 Geology of North America
  • GEOS 416 Advanced Geographic Information Systems
  • GEOS 435 Optical Mineralogy and Petrology
  • GEOS 103 Natural Disasters

• Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
• Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
• Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
• Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
• Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
• Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned doctorate or terminal degree in geology or a closely related field by August 2025.
• Other minimum qualifications specific to this position
• Demonstrated expertise related to structural geology, igneous and metamorphic petrology and GIS.
• Evidence of successful teaching experience in an undergraduate setting including:
  • experience teaching introductory courses to geology majors and non-majors.
  • experience teaching structural geology, mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, and GIS.
    
    
• Experience in structural geology, tectonics, or igneous and metamorphic petrology research.
• Experience in GIS, including the ESRI software suite.
• Experience or willingness to advise and mentor students.

Preferred Qualification

• Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.
