College/Department Information

The Augusta University School of Public Health was established in 2023 to address Georgia's distinct public health challenges through exceptional education, innovative research, and collaborative community engagement. We are leveraging the strengths of Georgia's only public academic medical center, combining public health expertise with clinical knowledge to train future public health leaders. Our school is comprised of three academic departments: Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Data Science, Community & Behavioral Health Sciences, and Health Management, Economics & Policy. We offer a variety of degree programs, from specialized master's options to doctoral programs that create the next generation of public health researchers. Our research mission is critical to our long-term impact; we strongly emphasize scholarly productivity through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and grant-funded projects. Annually, we attract more than $6M in extramural funding.

Job Summary

The Research Assistant works with public health researchers providing support on projects tasks (e.g. scheduling and leading training sessions, consenting subjects, recruitment, creating databases, assisting with data analysis, data management and quality control), and summarizing results. Communicates effectively with collaborators including principal investigator, co-investigators, research associates and graduate assistants, as well as community liaison. Monitors project progress and provides progress reports. Assists faculty with literature reviews, preparation of research reports, grant applications, presentations and manuscripts.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Conducts research project activities such as chart reviews, consenting subjects, assisting with preparing IRB documents, and instructs students regarding research techniques as defined by grant specific protocols.

Documents data results and compiles reports as requested by PI and required by funding agency.

Assists PI and other faculty writing reports and papers for presentation and publication.

Assists PI and other faculty in project planning and development of research protocols and techniques.

Manages project resources including ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment, and environment.

Ensure compliance with rules and regulations associated with conducting human subjects research (e.g. proper consent of research subjects, maintenance of subject confidentiality).

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

Some previous experience with social/behavioral science (public health) research is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgement and work independently.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday.

Salary Range: $17.88-$19.72 hourly.

Pay Band: B5

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
