Organization Background:

ICEF (Inner City Education Foundation) Public Schools is a nonprofit charter school management organization serving communities in the South Los Angeles area. ICEF Public Schools operates high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle and high schools. Position Description:

The Counselor establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program. The school counselor involves other school staff in making decisions about the school-wide positive intervention program.

Reporting:

This position reports to the Director of Mental Health and Wellness

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Cycle: 11 months

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Essential Functions:

TEAM LEADERSHIP 15%

  • Provides, assists and/or participates in staff development regarding student behavior, values clarification, trauma-informed practices, and proactive discipline.
  • Conduct classroom observations of students in order to help determine needs and/or to help with positive behavior support and/or behavior modification.
  • Coordinate/support the school’s site crisis intervention/management plan.

COUNSELING 15%

  • The school counselor provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students.

CONSULTING 15%

  • The school counselor consults with students, parents, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.

COORDINATING 15%

  • The school counselor coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school. The counselor also assists teachers with the implementation of the school’s social emotional curriculum, including social skills, violence prevention, sex education, bullying prevention, etc. 

SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORT 15%

  • The school counselor works as an intricate member of the special education team as the DIS Counselor. The DIS Counselor provides present levels, creates goals, and shares student progress at IEP meetings as assigned. 

DISCIPLINARY RESPONSIBILITIES   15%

  • Serves on Student Success Teams and student expulsion hearings to ensure the school is in compliance with due process and fair hearing regulations.
  • Serves as a resource to school administration in matters pertaining to student suspension, opportunity transfer, expulsion and reinstatement.

ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT  10%

  • Support the school’s attendance program by tracking attendance data and developing plans for chronically absent students, including correspondence with parents, parent meetings, attendance incentives, etc.
 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

●  Master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard from an accredited college or university. 

●  A valid California credential authorizing pupil personnel services 

●  Fluency in a language (other than English) utilized by a significant number of District students and/or their families is preferred. 

●  Knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local laws and District rules and policies pertaining to student health and human services. 

●  Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, socio-economic, linguistic and disability groups. 

●  Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, community representatives, local, state and federal agencies, colleagues and other charter personnel.

●  Ability to develop and effectively implement staff development for school-site and support personnel. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisees.

●  Must show proof and maintain a clear TB, DOJ and FBI Clearance. 

●  Must provide documentation of eligibility to work in US.
