Scrum Master

Location:   Strong preference for Cincinnati, OH (Charlotte, NC acceptable). Candidates must be located within 60 miles of city (Cincinnati, Chicago, Charlotte).

Start Date:   Targeting Early May 2025

Duration:   Contract (with potential extension)

Position Summary:

One of our client is seeking a confident, experienced   Scrum Master   to support the   Retail Merchandising Services (RMS) ERP Rollout , a critical multi-year project impacting clients Distribution Centers. This role will support multiple RMS Scrum teams (potentially 20+ teams) and requires a proactive leader who can bridge gaps between Engineering, Product, and Program Management.

You’ll play a key role in fostering Agile best practices, removing impediments, and supporting high-performing, self-organized teams. The ideal candidate brings not just Scrum expertise, but also strong vendor management, assertive communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide, coach, and motivate multiple Scrum teams to drive high performance and team maturity.
  • Organize and lead Scrum ceremonies: planning, daily standups, iteration reviews/demos, retrospectives.
  • Facilitate discussions, conflict resolution, decision making, and drive alignment across teams and vendors.
  • Support and enable cross-functional collaboration between Product, Engineering, and Program teams.
  • Oversee and manage team scope, timelines, quality goals, and deliverables aligned to business objectives.
  • Remove impediments and foster a trusting environment with an emphasis on productive conflict resolution.
  • Coordinate and communicate team progress and metrics to leadership and across programs.
  • Support and coach the Product Owner, ensuring effective backlog grooming and prioritization.
  • Promote and reinforce Agile principles, SDLC standards, working agreements, and best practices.
  • Adapt Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban) as needed depending on individual team dynamics.
  • Assertively manage 3rd party delivery vendors to ensure accountability and quality outcomes.
  • Foster continuous improvement through data-driven inspect-and-adapt cycles.

Skills & Experience Requirements:

  • Scrum Master experience   in complex, large-scale enterprise environments (5+ years preferred).
  • Hands-on experience   across Agile roles such as QA Engineer, Developer, or Product Owner strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to   bridge Engineering, Product, and Program Management   effectively.
  • Strong background in   servant leadership , proactive gap recognition, and building team trust.
  • Experience in environments requiring   flexibility across Scrum and Kanban   approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills  — must be confident handling challenging team dynamics and resistant stakeholders.
  • Strong vendor management   experience, particularly working with 3rd party delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple agile teams simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and personalities.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly, show initiative, and drive progress independently.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or enterprise retail technology rollouts is a plus
